A novella that is fourth in the Demonica Underworld, a continuation of the Demonica Universe (#11) dark paranormal romance. (It’s also 05.5 in the Lords of Deliverance and sixth in 1001 Dark Nights.) This Underworld revolves around Azagoth, the Grim Reaper and the lord of Sheoul-gra.

My Take
This is all about the power of love. Finding it though, well, it comes with an incentive for life, if Jedda finds what he wants.

We learn what Jedda and Razr think, feel, and experience through Ione's use of third person dual protagonist point-of-view from their perspectives.

The concept of gem elves is intriguing. It's cute that elves prefer living in the human world because of its chaos. Maybe it's why Jedda could be so honest in her introspection!

Ooh, Razr is just beset by "bargains". Poor boy. Even worse, he doesn't feel that his formal punishment is enough.

Hmm, that's some excuse, using a gem's alignment to explain why one goes evil and becomes good. Huh. Ione has an interesting take on how these life-stones work. An evil life-stone usually means the elf can lead normal lives if they live in the elf realm. Seems a bit contradictory.

And that becomes the real conflict: Why the Gems of Enoch are NOT good.

That visit to Filneshara was fun! The landscape, the trees (and their brutal punishments!), the whole Middle Earth feel.

Oy! What is it with angel parents!??

It's an easy read and almost cartoonish with the whole elf culture and physical requirements, but definitely fun. Okay, so Razr gets ripped too often, and the reason/purpose of his punishment is emotionally wrought . . . but still fun.

The Story
Razr will never get rid of his punishment. Not unless he can find those gems. Then Jim Bob provides a clue

The Characters
Jedda Brighton, a gem elf, is a gemologist and mineralogist with an upscale jewelry shop in London. The shop is also a front for dealing cursed and enchanted gems. Manda and Reina are/were Jedda's sisters. Sylvia and Becky, a dedicated churchgoer, are some of Jedda's employees.

Razriel "Razr", an elite battle angel (who loves his coffee) who was kicked out of Heaven, works for Azagoth training Azagoth's army of Memitim and Unfallen refugees. He, unfortunately, has to suffer random angelic punishments.

Sheoul-gra is . . .
. . . an underworld realm, a holding tank for the souls of dead demons and evil humans, ruled by Azagoth, a.k.a. the Grim Reaper. who's married to Lilliana ("Azagoth", 1 (DU), 11 (Dem)). Zhubaal is Azagoth's right-hand man and Razr's direct superior; he's mated to Vex ("Z" 3 (DU), 14 (Dem)). Hawkyn, one of Azagoth's sons, a Memitim, is skilled in alchemy. Suzanne, Hawkyn's full sister, likes to make miniature foods. Griminions are creepy short dudes, who work for Azagoth. Hades is mated to Cat (Hades, 2 (DU), 13 (Dem), 6.5 (LoD)). Cipher, an Unfallen, is a Fabio wanna-be.

Memitim are Azagoth's children; they're charged with guarding primoris, humans who are important to the fabric of existence. A heraldi is a mark that notifies a Memitim when their primori needs them.

Slayte was a fallen angel in Sheoul.

Heaven
Reaver is the most famous battle angel in history. His brother, Revenant, Sheoul's new king, had locked away Satan. "Jim Bob" is an angel spy. Gadreel is an archangel.

Ebel, an angry angel, and Darlah had been Razr's teammates those 100 years ago. Nabebe had been the human host for the Ice Diamond.

The Timeless Lands, Filneshara, are . . .
. . . "Middle Earth", the elven realm. Tindol is one elf Razr encounters.

The Wardens are . . .
. . . Rhona, Isla, and Galen, a Triad of dhampires, a hybrid of vampires and werewolves, who guard the most priceless things in the world.

The Underworld Sorcery Event is . . .
. . . an annual demon party. Shrike, a fallen angel, is the event organizer who owns the Austrian castle. Lexi is a lion shapeshifter. Thirst is an evil witch? Lothar, a.k.a. the Prince of Riches, is a famous demon scumbag.

The Four Horsemen
Limos is Famine. Thanatos is Death.

An Unfallen angel is an in-between state of an angel who had lost his/her wings, but has not entered Sheoul, the demon realm. Darlah is Razr's former lover, presumed dead when she failed to return from a mission. Taaffeite is a gem. A Harrowgate is a transportation system used by demons to travel.

Sweet Satie One-Eye is a disgusting elf hero. Azdai was an angel before humans knew what angels were. And he had some sociopathic issues. Baradoc is a demonologist. Lucifer and Satan are two different demons. Charnel Apostles are nuclear evil who can create amazing gemstones. Tom is an overweight, abusive slob . . . and rich.

The Cover and Title
The cover is almost neon! It's a black background divided into thirds. The upper two thirds is fuchsia in the novella series name and its fuchsia filigree stars and circles. The first "0" holds a front-facing angel with that incredibly ripped abdomen, his turquoise wings wide open, and his hands behind his upstretched neck. The second "0" is filled with an Ice Diamond. In the middle is the title in lilac with the series information also in lilac. In the lower third of the cover is a purplish blue for the author's name and the same blues and purples used for the filigree stars and circles. The middle "i" also functions as a demon caduceus.

The title is one of the protagonists, "Razr".

I fell in love with the Demonica series with the first book from it that I read and each new book only makes me fall for it deeper! Razr was no exception and it was even better and so much more than I was expecting. It was utterly fantastic and I positively loved it!

I loved Jedda not long after I met her and I liked her the more we saw of her. She's smart and sassy, strong and fierce, and kind and warm. She made me laugh and had me woohoo-ing and nodding in respect. Jedda is seriously awesome and I loved getting to meet her!

I couldn't remember Razr, but after reading this, I'm so glad he got his story told. Razr is a great guy - he's serious and honorable, but playful and sweet too. He's dominant and possessive and he'll break your heart, but he'll also put it back together. It wasn't hard at all to fall for Razr - he's wonderful!

Razr is funny and sexy and full of action, but it was so much more than that too. It was exciting, entertaining, and fascinating. I don't know if it was completely new or just new-to-me, but the Demonica world just got a little bigger and it was enchanting, magical, and beautiful. I absolutely loved Razr and I can't wait until the next book!

Razr is a standalone, it's told from Razr and Jedda's POV, and they do get a happy ending.

Razr isn't exactly a fallen angel, he's just had his wings and powers bound until he fixes his screw up. Jedda is a Gem elf(entirely new species in this series, loved it!!) and she is tricked into hunting for the same items that Razr is looking for, the only problem is that she's absorbed one of the items, because that is how gem elves survive by absorbing minerals from raw or cut gems.
This was a unique side quest that I really enjoyed.

I love the covers of these 1001 Dark Nights books. They always have the most brilliant colors yet it is mostly words with just a few pictures which are usually in the zeroes of the 1001. I give kudos to the graphic artist who designs these covers.

This is Larissa Ione’s fourth novella in the 1001 Dark Nights series. The 1001 Dark Nights series is a collection of paranormal and contemporary romance stories by various authors. I only follow a few of the authors so I haven’t read that many of them. I have noticed, however, that Larissa works with a lot of other authors on different projects like the Rising Storm series which is a long story written by various authors and Blood Red Kiss which is a book that has stories by Gena Showalter and Kresley Cole, two authors in my top ten favorites along with Larissa Ione of course.

We, the reader, have met Razr before in the last book of the Demonica series, Z although he remained a mystery. He is an angel who was kicked out of Heaven, along with two other angels, for making the huge mistake of losing the Enoch Gems during a battle against demons. His wings were bound and he also must endure beatings at irregular intervals. He carries his own whip and hands it to the nearest person when the glyph on his hand starts to glow. If he isn’t whipped right away, he experiences excruciating pain. In order to get back into Heaven, he has to find the Enoch Gems but he works in the underworld in Sheoul-gra for Azagoth aka the Grim Reaper so he doesn’t have a lot of time to go look. He’s in luck though because Azagoth decided to give him time off to locate the gems. Razr can’t wait to kill whoever was responsible for stealing the gems.

Jedda is a Gem Elf who, along with her two sisters, stole the gems from Razr while he and his team were busy fighting demons. She and her sisters can sense gems and felt the powerful jewels so they stole them from their human keepers. Each one of her sisters absorbed the power of the gems so that their life forces are dependent on the gems and then hid the physical gems. Jedda hid hers in Scotland with dhampires guarding it. Her gem just happens to be Razr’s gem, the one he has to get back in order to get back into Heaven.

Razr found the dhampires who were guarding his gem but they told him without its current owner, they had no way to access it. That led him to Jedda.

Jedda lives in the human realm and works as a specialist with gems. She was at what she thought was a gem conference when Razr found her but she soon found out it was a trap. A fallen angel named Shrike used some evil power from some evil demon or deity that he worshipped to put a spell on Jedda. She will weaken and eventually die if she doesn’t hand over the gem and a crystal horn that Shrike needs for some evil purpose.

Razr agrees to help her only because he needs the gem himself but he also has an unexplainable attraction to Jedda. He wants to believe that she just acquired the gem from a gem dealer or collector after the initial theft but he isn’t so sure. He has no clue that giving up the gem’s power will kill her.

This was a quick and enjoyable read. I always like Larissa Ione’s characters because she makes both the females and males baddass…no innocent little miss perfects in her books. I look forward to her next book. I wonder who it will be about.
