This book is: Empowering, current, and heart-warming
Genre: YA contemporary

I went into this book thinking it would a cute romantic story. Wrong! It still has that romantic component but it deals with a much bigger and universal issue permeating young adults today.

“What’re you going to do with your life?”
Yeah, it’s about trying to figure out how to be an adult in this confusing world.

The book starts a little bit too slow for me. If I hadn’t read Choi’s first book, I might have DNFed this one. I’m glad I kept reading!

Choi’s writing really touches on so many important contemporary issues most young adults and adults have to navigate through, like student loan, credit card, moving out, parental expectation and so on. It was done so tactful (and entertaining) that it didn’t feel preachy like some other book on similar topics.

If you feel like you don’t know what to do with your life, what career to choose, or just hate ‘adulting’, read this book.

Much like with "Emergency Contact", I just couldn't urge myself hard enough to finish this. At least, I got further than the first page with this book, but it still wasn't enough to keep me captivated. It's got great vocabulary and an interesting backdrop, and I loved all the realistic additions of the desi community, but it just wasn't enough to keep me invested in the story.

In this story, we have a romance between a college dropout (narrator) and a pop star/actress who is famous but commonly clowned, particularly by her age group. Now, while I appreciated the elaborate justification of emotion and specifically illustrated thought processes, I could not help but feel as if there was something missing, especially towards the end of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and gathered a decent to good amount of highlighted quotes. Solid 3.5/5. Definitely worth the read, but nothing ultra captivating or all-consuming.

Hitting almost too-close-to-home as a College Student struggling with the final stretch before a degree they view second to finding a fulfilling life afterwards, a romance about a young adult being swept away only to realize that fantasy has its consequences is something I would recommend to anyone looking for a challenging 'romance'. It doesn't exist so two characters can be in love and be happy and find their happily ever after, it exists to showcase romance should come second to the self, and the protagonist finding peace within their own life gave me confidence I'd be able to find peace within my own life. Despite that, the ending is a little jarring and I wish that, if the author kept the storyline going to the extent that they did, they leave it in a place that fully settles down both leads in a place they deserve.
