I ended up getting this on a whim because I thought the concept was really interesting. The characters are well drawn for the most part, and interesting. But the murder mystery aspect of it showed its hand too early, which left me waiting for the main character to slowly work it out. It's hard to seed something without giving too much away, and I know that'll depend on the reader. But it was a little too obvious for me. I kept expecting some twist that never came, to be honest. There's some character development at the end I'm not SURE was totally earned by what we experienced, but I thought it worked pretty well.

Interesting book, but a pretty poor ending in my opinion. I legitimately thought there must be another book coming considering the many strings left untied

It’s a mystery set at a magical school, with Veronica Mars vibes, mean girls, whispering books, a Chosen One, a lot of drinking, a little romantic subplot, and a heartbreaking sibling story. If you’re looking for a perfectly autumnal read, what else could you even want?

Really liked the character voice from the first page, but she was a really bad detective? And I'm account for the various reasons she should/would be bad at this particular job. It dipped into the unbelievable and I was rushing to finish at the end, because the revelations weren't all that revelatory. Good lot of character-relevant, snappy similies + metaphors, though.
