I think this being approached as a typical horror is where people are marking it down. This book clearly has so much to say, rather than just trying to scare you. There are such beautiful prose about the terrors women, especially women of colour face. And to mark this down because it wasn’t “horrifying” enough is to do disservice to the horrors that marginalised people face every day.
I will give it a 4 star for now because so felt that I needed a little more from the characters to fully fall in love with the book but my rating may increase as I sit with it.

Like Slewfoot, but much shorter and with a better ending.  I've been wanting to read about spirituality centered on the earth, and this scratched that itch pretty well.

Goddess of Filth was a coming of age story about loving your friends, embracing your sexuality and pleasure free from shame, and most importantly…female rage. I really enjoyed this read, it was a very fresh take on the possession genre. Honestly, the only reason I did not rate it a 5/5⭐️ is because it could’ve been longer, which is a rare complaint from me. I could’ve spent longer getting to know the girls more outside of the two main characters and the latter half of the novel could’ve been fleshed out more. Nevertheless, this was such an entertaining story that pulled me out of a reading slump.

This book was a great mixture of the craft, Jennifer’s body, and maybe a little bit of Sabrina the teenage witch.

It was a read about friendship, coming of age when you finally get a chance to break away or break free from expectations, and the pursuit of knowledge and ties to language, history, and culture of our ancestors.

The only thing I wanted more from this book was more of everything - more time with the characters, more pages to soak in the world, and more time to hear about what’s next for these characters and the impact of the events experienced within this small glimpse of time we are seeing into.

I couldn't staaaand the narrator!! I will try reading it instead. It's definitely promising though, I'll look forward to giving it another shot!(Also, the amount of times the word "female" was used got irritating lol)
