It was okay. I feel like it didn't live up to all the hype I'd heard about it. The premise is great, but I feel like there was a lot of lost potential - not enough world-building, characters that fell flat (but could've been much more well-rounded), a flimsy love interest. I didn't hate it by any means, and it was entertaining, but, I guess I just feel really meh about this book.

I was so totally excited to start this one. I mean, it literally felt like X-Men stuff. People suddenly started being born with powers, they manifested at puberty.

HECK YEAH!

Well, that was about all the heck yeah you got out of me after I realized how totally depression, boring, and pointless this all was. Basically, I felt like this was a book full of depressed teens, that although born with mutated DNA (some could even start fires) they allowed themselves to be held captive by the government and experimented on, apparently, gang raped? I fell like this was implied by one of the lead females friends and its why she was no longer her friend. Or it could have been a vivisection? Not enough was clear, I mean the implied wasn't even clear and your left trying to decipher an ancient tomb of secrets that about half way through, you just don't care about anymore.

The characters are all weak, because I could not believe that a group of X-men like kids couldn't escape this fate. Oh, and this mutation in the worlds children brought about economic collapse?

I atleast have to believe my dystopians and fall in love with my female heroes. This one, was not one of those books!
