First read: 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This has to be one of my most favorite books ever. I loved it so much I couldn’t put it down. I loved it so much that I hated the characters they hated, loved the ones they loved, and found myself bawling by the end. I can’t wait to read the next one, as well as every single one after that. I can already tell I will be sad when this series ends.

Second read: 4🌟🌟🌟🌟

Wow. I never expected to like this book less, but here we are😭. Don’t get me wrong, it was still great and I enjoyed reading it, it just didn’t hit like it did the first time. I didn’t experience the extreme shock and surprise and crazy emotions that came with it originally. Still, it was a great book with characters I absolutely loved and absolutely hated (but those ones just make the plot better don’t they?), and I am very excited to continue to read the series.

Everything you need for a YA dystopian novel. Very cool and loveable characters, a ton of suspense and danger, and a wild adventure the whole way through. The friendships were developed in a really lovely way, which is something I love to see. The violence of all kinds in this book are absolutely brutal to read and at times, a little too much, but I stuck around for the strength of the characters and their journey.

if i could give this book anymore stars, i would. usually when i find a dystopian novel, it never fulfills everything i hoped it would be, but this book was above and beyond my hopes. the intricacies of ruby, liam, zu & chubs of how they think and how manage to build such strong relationships with each other in the way theyve been thrown together is amazing. also?? the world building? this book got me so involved into what was going on not just about the characters, but about the ones we’d never been introduced to. the whole set up is just amazing & this style of writing helped make it even better. this book will always remain one of my favorites and the book i recommend to others who want to read a magical realistic dystopian world.
