When I watched this movie there were a lot of times when I felt I was missing something. Now that I have read the book I understand. This author writes in a poetic way, very descriptive and flowery language as he delves deep into feelings and memories. That is hard to express on film. This story is about a 17 year old and his affair with a visiting professor who is staying in his parents’ home in Italy for the summer. This relationship is problematic from an age perspective but also a maturity perspective. The teenager falls in love hard, in that completely obsessive way that teenagers love everything. And the older man takes advantage of that admiration.

The plot was basic but didn't take away from the story. I think it was written well too, and isn't too long of a read.

"Call Me by Your Name" is a novel that speaks to me on many levels. I found the book to be a beautifully written exploration of the complexities of desire and identity, and was impressed by the skillful way in which the author wove together themes of love, loss, and self-discovery.
One of the things that stood out to me about "Call Me by Your Name" was the strength of its character development. The novel's protagonist, Elio, is a rich and multifaceted character whose emotional and sexual awakening is both relatable and deeply affecting. I appreciated the way in which the author allowed Elio's flaws and insecurities to be an integral part of his journey towards self-acceptance, and found his journey to be both poignant and thought-provoking.
In addition to its strong character development, I was also impressed by the book's lyrical and poetic prose style. The author has a gift for vividly evoking the sensory details of the Italian countryside, and her descriptions of Elio's inner thoughts and emotions are both powerful and deeply felt.
Overall, I found "Call Me by Your Name" to be a beautifully crafted novel that explores complex themes of love, desire, and self-discovery with empathy and nuance. It is a book that rewards close reading and careful attention to detail, and is sure to resonate with anyone who has ever struggled to understand their own feelings or find their place in the world.

The way Aciman writes really makes you feel all of the raw emotion of being 17 and experiencing your first real love again. There are moments when this book brought back memories and emotions that I had completely forgotten I had ever felt. It's a slow read and feels almost stream-of-consciousness in some areas, which is incredibly charming and oddly adds to the immersion.

i was confused and uncomfortable at some points. Like
fucking a peach i could still bear but then comparing it to a rape victim was just ugh and ofcourse the creepy underwear scene.
But the writing was amazing, everything was beautifully worded and some parts made me feel like i understood myself better. the characters were complicated as was the story and the ending left me feeling sorta empty but in a good way?
