Call Me By Your Name really reminds me of Bernhard Schlink's The Reader, and despite its literary merit, I am similarly unsure that I enjoyed reading the novel. The writing is beautiful in some parts, but Elio's unhinged obsession and Oliver's acquiescence to the sexual advances of a minor are both cause for concern and not particularly enjoyable to read. Elio is damaged from the experience, unable to let his history with Olive go in order to form new and lasting bonds in adulthood, in a way that Oliver is not. The power imbalance in this novel is stark. Call Me By Your Name is considered a romance, but I don't see it as such. It's about obsession, miscommunication, and social expectations. There are also an egregious number of scenes that focus on feet.

When I found out that the story was “romance” between a 17-year-old kid and a 24-year-old man, I stopped reading. The author could’ve easily made the character be older (18 or 19), but the creep of an author made the deliberate choice to make him younger.

- An author at a book party says some very fetishizing things about people in Thailand, how everyone looks alike, and how he wanted to have sex with everyone. That was gross. - Elio has a thought about Oliver in a wheelchair, and how Elio would feel superior to Oliver if that were true. That was also gross. - a peach is compared to a rape victim. Did not like that image, as a survivor myself. It was a one-sentence comparison and the subject was never touched on again in the book.

This isn't a so-so read at all, but I didn't enjoy it.  It's poetic and highly literary. I don't always love literary fiction, and being neither a teen nor someone who experiences lust, I didn't connect with this whole ode to teenhood lust and first love. It's definitely an interesting read.

didnt read the book, didnt need to. its a MINOR and a ADULT!!!! what is WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!!!!!!! if you enjoyed this book as an adult, especially when it comes to the character's relationships, i am going to assume that you have pr are grooming a minor and you are using this book to find something to relate to! Lets not normalize a relationship between a 17 YEAR OLD KID (A MINOR) AND AN 24 YEAR OLD MAN (ADULT) 
Why is this an lgbtq romance, this can make homophobes continue to have the idea that gay people are bad and are all pedophiles and groomers. Please unpublish this!! and quit your career, Andre Aciman!!' Thanks!
