extremely graphic lovestory! not for the faint of heart. I did not love it, I felt it was tiring after a while. I did like how you follow the main character into his twisted mind, his obsession. but I did not really feel for him, I didn`t care for him. It was somewhat disturbing at times. The characters remained distant and unrelatable to me. But still: amazing writing. I felt like this book could have been even shorter.

Maybe I just don’t ‘get’ the book, but it really wasn’t my thing. I don’t get why Elio had to be underage for this to work, I found the writing to be pretentious and not fitting for a 17 year old, the relationship is obsessive and pretty toxic, there is so much build up but basically no climax (I thought the trip to Rome was gonna be it but no?), I still don’t understand what the whole call you by my name thing is about, and there’s some other minor problematic stuff. Also pretty much nothing happens? Like I just don’t get it? And don’t even get me started on the peach and the toilet thing.

i was confused and uncomfortable at some points. Like
fucking a peach i could still bear but then comparing it to a rape victim was just ugh and ofcourse the creepy underwear scene.
But the writing was amazing, everything was beautifully worded and some parts made me feel like i understood myself better. the characters were complicated as was the story and the ending left me feeling sorta empty but in a good way?

Wow.. this was gross in multiple parts.  Elio compared the peach to a SA victim🧐 I’m glad the film cut out the problematic bits. This book just felt like the author writing down his weird fetishes
The movie overall is better and this book just felt creepy and the author is a self proclaimed pedophile so take that as you will
