I had a teacher like that once and found it extremely funny that he was the one who told us to watch The Wave because he acted exactly like the guys from the movie.

Love when a book has both stellar pacing and fully realized and flawed characters. Dual timeline mystery plus a secret society made for a fun, engaging, and at times serious story.

CW: gaslighting, hazing, extortion, underage drinking,
Spoilerdeath of a minor

i liked this one! its not a favourite but its good. i feel like it would have been written better if the story had been told strictly from one POV but this was nice. the ending was wrapped up well and connie was a badass going off like that for that i love her. you should definitely read this if you have the time. i think it would be very easy to read in one sitting

This, besides truly devious, is probably one of the best mysteries I have read so far. I love how it intertwined past and present kind of like truly devious did. She was figuring stuff out right before it showed it in the past. I loved the "cult" secret society aspect. And the ending ended in a great way. It tied up all loose ends. Honestly I can't recommend this book enough.

Overall, the book was a fun read with lots of twists and turns.

Pro's:
- I liked how it incorporated elements of the cold war and psychology into the story
- I liked Eva and Connie's character developments
- I liked the ending, it was pretty satisfying

Con's:
- The twist in the book was a little obvious and I wasn't as shocked as I wanted to be
- The whole secret society thing IS slightly unrealistic, but hey, it's a book!

This book was….fine. The premise is honestly five times cooler than the actual execution of it was. The secret society played a smaller part than anticipated and the flashback to the 60s provided a cool murder plot that eventually was resolved in a pretty juvenile and cliche way. Overall pretty routine and predictable.

A fast read, but pretty mediocre even by YA standards.
