i read this in one sitting and finished it just now at two in the morning and wow... i am in absolute awe.
guerriero’s writing ensures that you really do feel the pressure and pride that these malambistas carry with them day to day. there’s no escaping notice of just how much labour the men put into their dances, only to have it dashed as soon as they win.
for the life of me, i cannot fathom working that hard, that often for the chance to win something that would ensure i’d never get to partake in it again. it’s truly fascinating stuff.

Esta crónica es fuego narra el Festival Nacional de Malambo de Laborde. Malambo es un baile folclórico argentino, una vez que te coronas campeón, no puedes volver a bailar. La autora nos cuenta la mejor historia de todas, la de un hombre común aferrado al sentimiento más peligroso: la esperanza.
Con una narrativa de palabras y sentimientos bestiales, me dejó con la piel de gallina y con ganas de ir a Laborde el próximo año a vivir la competencia fiera que es el malambo.

Uma história super interessante não só pelo evento em si, mas também pela trajetória e história da pessoa que acompanhamos a partir de determinado momento. Caso o final fosse diferente, eu teria morrido um tiquinho. Super recomendo.
