This book is told in the style of “concrete ramblings” ? Zižek draws connections from many seemingly unrelated topics and can find intertextuality, parallels, and analogies for just about anything. It really softens the mood on very big topics, ideas and ideologies through likening them to pop culture and mainstream topics. He is able to boil down many loaded concepts into easily digestible bits. The only criticism I found was that he could start on an idea and leave it somewhat half finished or just not exhaustively explore everything he brought onto the page. Which ultimately only lead me to want to consume more of his content. But an overall good armchair read, which stays relevant to the now while drawing a lot on age old ideologies and some more contemporary ones like individualism. A great read overall! Easy to get through, funny and super interesting throughout

Interesting and makes you think. It touches up on many different aspects of the political climate, and psychoanalysis behind it. A full medical check of capitalism.

A rambling but entertaining look at modern capitalism and global politics today, through the typical Žižekian cypher of jokes and film theory. Some key passages in amongst a world of waffle.

It‰ЫЄs easy to get lost within some of the ramblings, but there is some interesting arguments. Zizek isn‰ЫЄt really someone I could recommend, but if someone read it, it‰ЫЄd be easy to have a long conversation about it.

This was a rollercoaster of a read. Žižek's pace is frantic, and while he did leap from one topic to another in a flurry, it was not too difficult to follow. His arguments and examples are coherent, presenting a good case for the revolutionary power of communism and dismantling of the evidently defunct Western liberal capitalist democracy. The broad use of examples across history, politics and popular culture was helpful, though he did repeat himself a little at times. This serves as a good entry point into Žižek's work.
