This one took me a while to read. Granted, I was really busy with AP tests and finals and all that good stuff, but it felt like it took a while to get interesting.

The ending tho, I LIVE FOR THE CINDER AND KAI ROMANCE

plus Thorne and Cress are pretty cute together

Excellent sequel! I am getting a little tied up with so many characters, but I'm having fun with this story!

I think the character development and story are on track here. I like the world-building in this series a LOT and it's actually what is making sci-fi palatable for me! Scarlet was okay, but this installment is up there with Cinder for me. I think it's because I just like Cinder as a character more.

Spoiler Scarlet annoys me a lot because she's the feisty trope, and Cress annoys me because she's the fragile trope - though in her case it makes sense. But Cress also has technological skills to make up for that. Cinder is a smart mastermind and has more obvious cyborg advantages which I think gives her the upper-hand in her romantic pairing with Prince Kai. So I like that dynamic, it feels fresh; she's not mooning over him as much as other women in books and even other women in THESE books. She and Cress feel more real than Levana whose only personality trait is EVIL - granted that's a powerful trait but it's quite linear. I will say Captain Thorne is a more three-dimensional character as well, and I don't mind him and Cress. I just DO NOT understand what Scarlet brings to the table other than her Grandma being important, and Wolf is meh just the strong silent boring trope - so what if you've both "found love in a hopeless place," I'm not 14 so the "tortured love is the realest love" trope does nothing for me.

Anyway. This is YA. Not sure I needed to analyze it this much. But here we are in Quarantine life doing just that. SHRUG. Eerily enough this series is appropriate for a pandemic. Thanks for attending my TED talk.

I actually really liked this book, probably better than the first two.
I loved that Cress and Thorne weren’t just instantly a thing. They went through a massive ordeal and helped each other and you could see them growing together.
Cress’s naive attitude was a little annoying but I know why she had to be that way and it fit her character perfectly.
You can see the story really coming together and it’s fun seeing the bigger picture. Definitely a great build up story. I’m a little nervous to read the last book cause I feel like it can end really well or really bad.
Not sure how I feel about Winters character... seems like it could be interesting though.
