I loved the premise of this novel, a women receives a painting and a mysterious note which leads her to try and track down her long lost grandfather. Intertwined with Emily's story in present day, is the story of Peter during the Second World War. Peter story does move quite quickly through the years which was a little bit confusing. It was also very sad novel, featuring a lot of loss.
