I liked this book. It is probably my least fave from Elle Kennedy that I’ve read so far though.

I liked that the two MCs grew up together, and it has a HEA, which is fab.

I don’t know why exactly I didn’t like it as much. I often enjoy bolder characters who aren’t just the sweet, shy, nerdy type, but this just didn’t hit the spot for me. I won’t reread this.

This book took me too long to read, & that is nothing against the book, it just had no hockey in it & I’m in my hockey romance era. That being said, I did love this book. Evan & Gen are perfect for eachother, and their growth as individuals and as a couple thoughout the book is so inspiring! They don’t even realize how much they push eachother to be better versions of themselves, they really do complete eachother!

I have mixed feelings when it comes to this book. In the end, I did really enjoy this book and the romance. However, I was not excited to pick it up and I just didn't feel as connected to the characters as I wanted. There was a lot of character growth, which was done well. I also did enjoy the second chance romance, a trope that I am not normally a fan of, as I could buy into their relationship working the second time around. My problem came from the other things going on around their relationship. The additional guy in the story made me question Genevieve a little in terms of her changing, and there is a policeman storyline that I feel is introduced at the start but then disappears to come back again and I don't know if it was fleshed out enough. Overall, it was an OK read and I am glad I finally got it off of my TBR.

I did like the concept of the characters improving themselves (and not just the MMC and MFC) but otherwise this was predictable and flat.

Gen and Evan are childhood sweethearts who got into a lot of shenanigans around their small town growing up. Gen realizes she needs to make significant changes to her life and stop drinking and having brushes with the law, but she can’t do that with Evan around, so she leaves without a word. When she returns to town for a funeral, she tries her hardest not to get swept up by him.

I found these characters toxic to each other and the “will they/won’t they have it all was insufferable. I appreciate the fact that they both tried to better themselves for each other, but it felt like they were also dragging each other down without meaning to. I’m generally a very fact reader but I struggled with this one. I took a two week break on reading this and seriously considered DNFing. I normally don’t mind a second chance romance but this wasn’t my favorite.

Love this series, although this book falls behind good girl complex and the summer girl for me. It was a little slow. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
