I absolutely loved the writing style of this book. To me, it kept me hooked and intrigued. I would love to read it for the first time again.

When I read this, I really enjoyed it. Then I went and read some other opinions and they had some good points about how poorly the female characters are written. It was also brought to my attention  that the author changed something from the original mythology that she really shouldn’t have. She had the princess do something to Achilles that in the original, Achilles did to her. Hearing all of these things, I have complicated feelings toward this book 😭

this is a well-written book that gave me a lot of lore about achilles and other greek heroes of mythology but the pacing was a little slow (especially in the beginning). the ending had more action for sure and the main characters were very well developed so those are both huge plus points for the book. it did a great job of capturing mythology in a  novel format but i prefer books with more action and plot.

The book was well written in terms of language and pacing, but the subject matter - by this I mean the war, not the romance - was hard for me to stomach. The focus is on the male characters, as it is in the source material, and how women, children or indeed all humans are treated is not sugarcoated. Also, because of the subject matter, there is a lot of violence, gore and cruelty. I also hated Achilles as a character, which made the motivation of Patroclus' actions hard to understand. Will not read again.
