Artichoke Hearts was a very heartwarming and enjoyable read that is the perfect book for young readers that covers so many big topics like your first period, first boyfriend, death in the family, and relationships between siblings and parents so well! I really think this was an excellent read for readers of all ages.

Enjoy the time you have with your family. There is never enough.

I loved this. Cannot believe it has been 10 years since it was written, I must hunt for more books by this incredible author. Refreshing and real throughout and is impossible to put down. Devoured. Wish I'd read it sooner.

Doesn't feel fair to give this a star rating when it's a book meant for younger people than me. But young me would have given it 5 stars; I loved this story years ago, about when I was Mira's age. I think it's a good one for people of that age- just leaving childhood but not yet in their teens, to read. It covers fairly deep subjects but in a manageable and familiar tone, the author definitely captured the voice of a newly twelve year old girl. It was nice to read a book from so long ago, sort of like returning to childhood for a few hours.

3.5 cause it’s a book of two halves - to start out with I found the writing a bit too ‘first novel’ ish, and felt that Mira spent too much time explaining things your average 12 year old wouldn’t notice. Then on the second half when that set up was out of the way she settles into the flow, develops the stories and characters, and I cried at the end. Would certainly read more by this author and recommend to tween/pre-tween kids, especially any affected by loss.

A beautiful ending, words can't describe how splendid this book was, it'll take me a lot of time to come out of it,
Spoiler Mira Levenson in my opinion is a character quite beautifully woven the way she coped up with life, and Nana Josie is truly inspiring, the way she welcomes death is truly motivating.

This book is perfect for girls, who are young but don't come in the YA category, all teens and pre-teens will love this, dealing with issues like periods, this book is a must read :D
