This is just the book the series needed after A Court of Wings and Ruin. Through this holiday experience we are able to relax and find comfort in the characters healing process. That is not to say raw emotions aren't shown.
Nesta especially is struggling with her mental health.
I loved the juxtaposition this book showed. No fighting, not much political scheming, just people who love each other trying to piece together their fallen world.

Also bonus points for the multiple perspectives, including everyone!

This book was beautiful. It was that sort of needed read between the war and every chaos of the previous books and what's coming next. It was relaxing, to just read about festive times and love. Love how we also got so much more insight in the other characters their lifes. It's a little treasure and SJM nails it every damn time. Onto the next one!

This story was so cute! Honestly, I couldn't stop grinning as I read each chapter. I love that it was written from various character's POV. I feel like it gave me the chance to get to know each character better and see how they fit in to their little found family. I just finished this book but I already want to reread it!

2024 Review

This was my second time reading this book, and while it isn’t my favourite, it was definitely still enjoyable!

I always find novellas a little tricky. Most of the time, I only actually read novellas that are a part of a larger series, because I find that it’s just not enough time to get attached to novella characters if I don’t already know them.

This novella is one that works really well for me. The entire series can be heavy at times and it’s nice to get some insight into characters we love, while there isn’t a big crisis.

Also, I find I really enjoyed that it delved a little into the aftermath of the previous books. With fantasy series, often times, the series ends with the main characters emerging victorious, but we don’t see the aftermath. We don’t see communities rebuilding, we don’t see individuals experience trauma from the events. With this novella, it felt fairly lighthearted, while also not glossing over the more difficult aspects of the characters and their lives.

Multiple first person narrators (more than two/three) tends to be one of my least favourite things, however this is probably one of the few instances where I didn’t actually mind. Considering it was a novella, rather than a long and complex full length novel, I found I wasn’t too bothered by it.

Overall, I love this series and its characters!
