Krakauer writes in an excellent manner in depicting the travels of Chris McCandless-- aka Alexander Supertramp. Far from dry, this book paints a realistic picture and attempts to get into the psychology of McCandless and his purpose in abandoning civilization for the harsh Alaskan bush. This book, however, is not very objective, and Krakauer is obviously attempting to defend McCandless against the numerous outbursts and comments against him. Other then its subjectivity, this book is a fabulous read.

really fantastic book and incredibly moving. chris mccandless was a very complex person and it feels like this book does a good job of capturing some of what made him tick
i also highly recommend waiting until after finishing the book to look up the photos he took
