Taylor Jenkins Reid brought Evelyn Hugo to LIFE. I was hooked from the beginning. She brought homophobia, sexism, and racism to the forefront with how they affected Evelyn’s life in the 50s throughout the 80s and beyond. Loved this book. Love this author. Love Evelyn Hugo.

I feel like the foreshadowing of the plot twist made the twist fizzle out once revealed. It was so hyped that nothing would ever live up to it. I do think by the very end the author was able to turn it back around. I truly enjoyed the first 250 or so pages. I feel the description of the main character's experience as a woman of color was poorly written.

I really enjoyed this book. I'd heard about it for years and assumed it was a very hetero drama - no spoilers, but if you like LGBT fiction, you'll very much enjoy this book. I'm glad I gave it a shot! It was a quick, easy read. The author is a master at telling only the necessary bits of information and allowing the reader's imagination to take it away.

This took me a few days to process and decide on a rating, but I'm going to give it five stars!
The sole fact that this book is still on my mind after I'm well into my next one tells me that I really was fully intrigued by this story, and it really captured my thoughts!
I'm usually one for more lighthearted stories and romances, but the complicated nature of the romance was so interesting to me, as I've never read a queer romance set in the past!
I really liked the friendships in this book (even more than the romantic relationships), it was so emotional and heartwarming, and also heartbreaking...
And the twist later on in the book really got me!

Amazing. I read this book in two days because I couldn’t put it down. I started after EVERYONE was talking about it and I got curious, even though I did not expect much given the title. Oh I was wrong, I was so wrong. It’s a must-read. It’s beautiful, sad, emotional, and heartwarming all at once. And it’s very surprising.
