This is a fun concept! I like the minimal text. The illustrations can be a little hard to follow. I might try this in a phonological awareness storytime

A little child convinces their dad that today is the perfect day to go exploring this beautifully illustrated book.

The little child and her dad (will say it’s a girl, but it could easily be a boy), decide to head out to the tippy top of the mountain instead of watching football. On their way there are many mini-adventures and much to see.

Playful animals are all around and so are insects, after all, this is a tropical adventure. The duo climb rocks, take paths, see waterfalls, swing on vines, admire plants, relax and eat.

The book is peppered with French creole and leaves you with a warm-hearted feeling after reading it. I was/am enchanted!

Please read it to all the little ones you know.

The art in this one is gorgeous. It's bright and colorful and reminds me of my own trip to St. Lucia when I was doing my own mountain hike. I think kids will really connect to the vibrant art style. I love how hair and skin tones are depicted. As far as the dialogue the creole was a nice touch. However the story felt very random and there was just not climax to keep someone like my niece running back for this one. There was no real goal to the hike and then it felt like it ended abruptly. I can't justify paying almost $20 for a book that doesn't have much of a storyline. This book would've been perfect it had more of an adventure.

I received an arc from North South Books in exchange for an honest review.

With bright illustrations filled with beautiful plants and animals, perfect cadence, and a sprinkling of Creole words, this is a perfect book to introduce children to a world they may not have seen, and remind them how much beauty can be found in the natural world!
