Whoa, I know Nicki Giovanni is an amazing poet, but this collection of her work really blew my mind. From comforting and joyful poems reflecting on her life to some straight up passionate truths about racism, rape, and other injustices, she did not hold back. She even had one about that awkward time after a long flight she had to pee while someone needed one more thing from her. My favorite was Quilts but all of these will stay with me. What I would give to have a dinner with her and just hear some of these poems and prose in person.

Need to reread but really interesting to hear such a. Legendary American poet and activists takes in American issues in 2020 who’s been active for decades in between poems about her puppy and garden.

Gosh. Such a wide range and they're all so good. I really liked I Am Your Sweatshirt but truly this is excellent.

Why did I wait so long? I rarely read poetry, but heard an interview with Nikki Giovanni and was entertained by her humor and strong opinions. Her poetry lived up to my expectations.
