Well... Meh.

I liked Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne. A lot. So I was excited for this novella when I heard of it. Especially 'cause I thought it would be all about new information of the past and cute moments of the Queens's sisterly affection. I thought we would get to see them together and learn why Mira remembers so much and maybe even get some hint of how the hell we might get Kat on our side.

Instead, we got like 5 pages of them together (5 pretty underwhelming pages, by the way), followed by a reprise of everything we already knew. So yeah, this was a big disappointment for me.

I know this is a novella, so it does not have to contain relevant information plotwise. But the least I expected was some connection to the characters. Which I did not get at all. Actually, that's a problem in this series for me. I don't care much for the characters. I love the world, the politics are just mind-blowing and the plot really manages to surprise me at every turn. But the characters? Meh. And I hoped this novella would take me from "meh" to "oh, I like them, want them all to live and be happy ever after".... Maybe it was too big a change to hope for, but whatever.

So, yeah, Did not like it. Skimmed most of it, only really paying attentionto the first few chapters. But am still excited for the next book! Just probably won't be reading any more of this series novellas for a while.

I didn’t like this book as much as The Oracle Queen, but i still liked it and enjoyed it, and i must say,so far, Katharine is my favorite, which is sad because it’s most likely for Mirabella to survive, so i’m mad that i started liking Katharine more because it’ll be harder for me to start liking Mirabella.

Also, for some reason i’m getting kind of attached to these characters, just like i got attached to Elsabet, now it’s happening with Caragh(i’m still mad that she had to go away)and Katharine, and probably with Natalia, and i really don’t think it’s a good idea, but whatever.

Overall, really good short novella.

I really enjoyed learning more about the background and history of the three queens with this novella. Reading about how each of the queens start being trained was interesting and definitely made me want to start the series.

I wished I read this before finishing the series because they go into depth with the Queens personality which was lacking in the main series.

I enjoyed this even more than the books. There was beauty, intensity and a couple of emotional, even heart wrenching scenes.

I still hate reading the chapters in Wolf Spring. They don't appeal to my aesthetic and the characters are too flat.

Little Katherine was so sweat and the fact that her mother and Willa knowingly sent her to the Arrons to be abused angered me to no end. But I absolutely LOVED the descriptions of the poisons.

As for Mirabella, who knew that she had a temper once . I only wish she will show some of that temper in future books. Unsteady characters make for such greater stories.
