I read through this book in a day. Very entertaining thriller with a truly vicious villain.  I had suspicions about who the local enemies were, but not enough surety for it to not be a fun read. I enjoyed the character direction of Gina/Gwen and I am curious how much Caine will push her arc further in the series.

I had no intentions of reading this book but it was suggested to me for my 12 books in 12 months for 2023, and let me tell you I'm SO glad I picked it up. The audio was fantastic. While I had no idea what to expect from this book (hello I don't read synopsis), it pleasantly surprised me and introduced me to a new series I can't wait to continue!

Right from the first few lines, I was absolutely hooked. Throughout the whole book, I had goosebumps, felt uncomfortable, and couldn't get enough of the story. The setting of Stillhouse Lake was perfectly creepy. While the pace is a little slow, I was still on the edge of my seat, anxious to find out what came next.

Amei demais, excelente thriller.
Detalhes interessantes:
Spoiler não teve descrição sobre a aparência da personagem; quando ela descreve outros, é quase meramente um reflexo defensivo também; tem vários comentários sobre raça e racismo (incluindo latinos)

Rachel Caine has always made me feel awe with her excellent writing, and Stillhouse Lake definitely upped the ante! The psychological part of the thriller here was absolutely chilling. Also, the fact that a lot of what happened was plausible made my heart beat faster, and at the same time, it also made me want to read faster!
Gwen and her children had been through hell, and Gwen would do anything to keep them safe. She was always running to keep ahead of all the strangers who were after her, until she found a place where she finally felt like she was home.
The intrigue, the anxiety, the anger, and the readiness to fight made this novel one of my favorites that I've read this year.

Very well written but nothing brand new. The audiobook was very well done so if you’re going to read this, I do recommend the audiobook.
