I read this with my 6 year old and we both really liked it. Totally age-appropriate and with great monster-designs.

Really cute graphic novel about a pre-Wonder Woman story of Diana of Themyscira. I loved the plot and how it dealt with Diana feeling unappreciated and unimportant as the only child on her island. I think the tone and story were excellent and I would love to see more graphic novels like this. Young adventures of super heroes or mythological figures.

I really enjoyed the conflict a lot. And the art is so pretty and engaging.

Thanks to NetGalley and DC Comics for the review copy of Diana: Princess of the Amazons by Shannon Hale & Dean Hale and illustrated by Victoria Ying. All opinions are my own.

This graphic novel is about Diana, daughter of the queen of the Amazons. Diana hates that she is the only kid among the Amazons. She builds a friend out of clay and wishes for her to come to life. She is shocked when it works and is delighted to finally have a friend! However, things may not be as they seem. Instead of relieving her boredom, her new friend may just lead her into trouble.

The illustrations in this book are wonderful! If you pay close attention, there are some subtle clues in a few of the illustrations that help the reader figure out the ending. This story has a great lesson about friendship and choosing your friends wisely. I think many kids will be able to relate to feeling torn about a friend the way that Diana does in this story. This book would be ideal for grades 3 -6.

Essentially, I read this because Shannon Hale (I will read anything by Shannon Hale) and also because Hoopla's Bonus Borrows thing meant it didn't count towards my six-book limit for the month of April (usually I don't get graphic novels or comics through Hoopla simply because they're so quick to read and I have limited monthly borrows).

It was cute! The art style was lovely, the pacing and conflict was good, Diana's arc was believable and a little relatable if you're a kid; it's just all around a solid graphic novel.

The book Diana: Princess of the Amazons, tells an origin story of sorts about Wonder Woman. It describes her life on Themyscira as a young teenager, as she tries to make sense of being the only girl her age on the island. It reflects her concerns about how to connect with her mother and other women in her society. Leaning on the story of her own origin, she attempts to make a friend, with interesting results. Overall, I enjoyed this book. I thought the book would be especially appropriate for later elementary or middle school-aged students. It is well written, and I enjoyed the art as well.

This is a very cute middle grade story about Diana, daughter of the queen of the Amazons, Queen Hippolyta, and her journey to find friendship and reconnect with her mother.

I picked it up recently in a comic store on a whim, and I wasn't disappointed.
