Emily McIntire, you never fail to pull me into your stories! The plot and characters in this book were incredible, and I was hooked from start to finish. Itā€™s a medium-paced read, with a rhythm that kept me engaged and eager to see what would happen next.

Evelina was a fascinating characterā€¦strong-willed, hot-headed, and, as the story's villain, an absolute force. Her depth and complexity as the ā€œbad guyā€ made her so compelling to follow.

And then there's Nick, or should I say Brayden. His character was irresistible, with a warmth and protectiveness that made him easy to love. Watching him slowly break down his own walls and come to care for Evelina, despite their conflicting paths, added so much depth to the story. Their connection was electric, and the chemistry between them was off the charts.

And the spice? Absolutely top-notch. The scenes between Nick and Evelina were nothing short of intense and deliciously filthy, the kind that make your heart race and keep you grinning long after youā€™ve turned the page.

This book truly nails the dark romance vibe, with tension that had me kicking my feet every time they were in the same room together. If you're after a story with unforgettable characters, a gripping plot, and that perfect mix of romance and spice, this one is a must-read.  šŸ”« šŸ’š

Everyone is making dumb and impulsive decicions while reveling in dark deeds. I don't get how any of these people are able to keep up their cover identities.

I really liked this book! Probably my favorite so far in the series and I read it in one sitting! Itā€™s mostly enemies to lovers, has plenty of touch her/him and die moments, knives/guns to the throat. This is a wizard of oz retelling, kind of, where the author uses some names and ideas from the movie. However itā€™s more of a dark mafia romance where the FMC, Evelina (although they say Eveline in the audiobook), is the brains of the operation. I LOVED her character! This author really shines with her villain characters in this series, and Evelina makes me support womenā€™s rights and wrongs. Evelina is the morally gray villain, and the youngest sister who often gets left behind. She suspects her older sister Dorothy of murdering their oldest sister nessa many years ago. Her father lets her run the business but treats her like shit bc sheā€™s a woman. She wouldnā€™t call him this but her only friend is really Ezekiel (zeke in the audiobook), since he seems to be the only one who cares about her. Evie and nick have a one night stand at a bar, riiight before heā€™s assigned to go undercover to try to get evidence of the westerlyā€™s drug supplier (heā€™s a DEA agent). Nick is your classic, I never received love so I donā€™t believe in it playboy (representative of the tin man). Evieā€™s father decided to bring in a new guy to help push jewelry? And guess what? Itā€™s nick. Evie is a deeply mistrusting and guarded person (for good reason), but as she and nick (heā€™s undercover with a different name though) go on missions, she opens up to him and they realize theyā€™re more alike than they thought. He gets in over his head and they continue to hookup, even though his in with the family was supposed to be seducing dorothy. Nick has to decide if truth and justice are worth selling out the woman he loves. The spice in this book was good, very true to the characters as well. Both evie and nickā€™s character development was crazy compared to the first two books in the series. The ending is pretty perfect and HEA. The extended epilogue available on the authorā€™s website was great too. I maybe couldā€™ve done with less poetry lmao.

I also listened along to the audiobook and both the narrators were perfect for their characters! Once again there were a few changes between the KU ebook and the audiobook, but not as severe as scarred. There were a few names changed and one passage of Dorothy and nick out at dinner that was omitted from the audiobook for some reason. Overall I really liked this book and will probably reread in the future!

I'd say this is the best so far of the three Emily McIntire fairytale retellings that I've read. Here, the woman is the dark part of the 'dark romance', and she kinda lives up to it. The Wicked Witch of the West is the daughter of a drug dealer and the one cooking them up. She's dedicated to her family and what she does, but she is also a little eager to kill people. It's nice to see a villain where what makes them evil isn't their sexist attitude towards women, and it's a shame that it's only because the villain is a woman. I can say this because the 'good' guy that falls in love with her says the same shit that the men in the other novels do. The tin man from the Wizard of Oz is a DEA agent going undercover to find the source of the really powerful drugs in the area and happens to fall in love with the mind behind it. He's a player before he meets her, and then all the misogynistic shit he says is magically gone because he loves her. Kinda fed up with that trope.

There is no redeeming qualities when it comes to Evie in my mind, that woman is off her rocker. I did like Nick, though, which made it more complicated. Also the spice hit well.

I wasnā€™t sure how Iā€™d feel about the female being the ā€œbad guy,ā€ but it was done so well. She was still portrayed in a way that made her sympathetic in a dark way of course. Spice was also top notch.

I liked that the lady main character had the morally gray traits! Also the wizard of oz/wicked references were amazing. Always makes me smile. I didnā€™t love the Mr. Main character I didnā€™t find him to be particularly interesting but I donā€™t think that was the intent. The focus is more on other characters growth and drive.

Good read but nothing extra special. Fast paced and easy reading though. I just didnā€™t feel emotionally invested in the story
