Thank you to St Martin’s Press and LibroFM for the advance reading and listening copies. A Good Neighborhood was on my radar but not at the top of my reading list - until 3 friends read it and were all saying only good things and I knew I needed to bump it up and read it immediately.
I went into it without knowing anything about the plot and I recommend you do the same. It’s a domestic drama that covers a lot of intense and important topics - and is done extremely well. It made me angry. It made me cry. It made me wish this didn’t feel so realistic.
I would highly recommend this for book clubs as well - there are a lot of topics to discuss and I think you’ll be glad to be able to discuss it when you get to the end. All the stars for this book.

Wow.
Definitely a page turner.
Finished this in 2 days.
What a story and the fact that a white woman wrote this book is quite interesting. She captured a lot of the struggles and the injustice that involves black ppl and the justice system.
The audiobook narrator was incredible too.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for me.
Will recommend to anyone who is into social commentary involving privilege, race and class.

Couldn’t put this book down! It was fantastic. It tackled lots of interesting (and relevant) themes and issues with today’s world. However, I couldn’t look past a white woman writing so deeply about racial issues. As a POC, these are lived experiences (especially in NC) that are unique and deeply personal. I can tell another person my stories, but they will never feel what I felt at that time. The ending also was heartbreaking

This book started off quite slow and slowly (SLOWLY) built up to an incredibly fast moving second half.
This book infuriated me, on so many levels. I was angry about certain situation and I was angry about the way the characters handled certain situations. But it made for a interesting read.
Unfortunately because the book was so slow at the beginning, it made it difficult for me to connect with the characters, so i often felt as though i was simply watching the story unfold, instead of living in with the characters.
This book touches on some deep issues, and I have doubts that this book will do these issues justice, perhaps in a light setting as a springboard to a much larger conversation, but I don't think this book can stand on its own.
