This is such a good book, wow. I read it after watching the movie so I can’t say I experienced all the shocks, but I loved it nonetheless. The mental health representation and the general messages are so well-presented and important and I think everyone should read this. Part of me wishes it was longer, but I think it was perfect honestly. I also really loved the writing style! Very creative.

oml this book. this book. i think this is my new favorite, but i guess like charlie said, it is until i read the next one. i got very emotional and that end and teared up. i don’t even know what to say. the concept of writing letters to someone you have never and will never meet is so fascinating, and i might start writing my journal entries like that ;). but really, this book is truly something special, and it makes me feel…..infinite.

The best book I’ve read this year. Unbelievably good.

I could really feel everything Charlie experienced or witnessed throughout the book. Some topics were brought up with such naïveté from Charlie’s perspective, that they had even more of an impact on the reader. The book shows that everyone has some sort of personal issues, that they maybe never even talk about. I like how it was portrait how families or especially the parents‘ behavior impact your life and that sometimes it all you reflect that same behavior on your children.
In the beginning, the book makes it seem that it’s just a normal coming of age kind of thing, but then you quickly realize how deep it goes. The things Charlie has witnessed in the 16 years of his life, have shaped him in terrible ways. When his alcohol and drug addiction got worse, I was really afraid he’s gonna kill himself and I thought so until the prologue. I’m glad he got better in the end and now has a stable connection to his family and friends, so the rest of his life can get better.
Until now I’m still a bit confused who he was writing to, but I’m gonna google that to find out. It doesn’t bother me too much tho, since it was mainly used to tell the story.
But I really like this book and am grateful for Philip that he basically forced me to read it hahaha
