Finished it in just a couple of quick reads. Near the end I couldn't put it down. That said, some of the foreshadowing at the beginning was more distracting than it was helpful. I assumed the women were connected pretty early on so it became less about learning the how than the why.

First, I would like to thank Netgalley and Minotaur Books for providing me with a free Kindle ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

When I started reading this book, I was concurrently reading another novel with a similar beginning, so I had to set this one aside in order to prevent confusion. The book is broken up into three parts. Part I was mildly interesting as Alice begins to suspect her second husband of cheating, whilst continuing to struggle with the grief of her first husband's death almost a decade ago.

In Part II, the book changes from Alice's narration to that of another character. I do not want to spoil anything for anyone, so I won't even mention this character's name (don't peek!). This was my FAVORITE part of the book! I was so obsessed with these characters that I couldn't put the book down and stayed up until my boyfriend got up and started getting ready for work! o.O There are two words for this section: ultimate betrayal!

Part III brings everything together. I had already figured out how this book would end in Part I, but reading Part II made me question everything I suspected. I felt that the conclusion of the book was rushed and that the Epilogue was so short that it could have been omitted.

Nonetheless, this book became unputdownable at the conclusion of Part I and I stayed up all night to finish it. This book will have you loving the characters you hate and hating the characters you love!

The good: a book well written, keeps you hooked, a bit of a page turner. The story has some good twists and the ending is not bad.

The not so good: this is another book written by Sandie Jones where women are poor victims of men that are psychopaths who can successfully hide their nature for years on end. This is getting a bit old...

The First Mistake by Sandie Jones was a highly anticipated book for me. I love her writing style and she is skilled at writing captivating and engaging domestic thrillers. I was drawn into this story but was left with a lot of unanswered questions and an ending that didn't entirely work for me because it was all wrapped up so quickly.

I am one who likes a little more substance and depth and I understand that with this type of book you don't always get that, but this just left me wanting more.

The First Mistake was very engaging but I felt like I needed more of the backstory to feel connected to Alice, Beth, and Nathan. I found myself feeling quite frustrated with the characters not being able to react reasonably when time and time again there were major issues that were either being ignored or not taken seriously...

All in all, this was a fast-paced book that definitely is entertaining, I just don't think it was the perfect fit for me. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's press for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Mintour Books & Sandie Jones for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

HOLY COW! I loved this one even more than The Other Woman. Sandie Jones is a brilliant story teller. This is a psychological thriller set in the UK and is told in three parts. Usually these are the books I like one or two parts but not all three. That's not the case with this one! I loved them all! It was a real page turner for me. There were so many twists and turns and even though I somewhat had some things figured out early on there were plenty of OMG moments that I really didn't see coming. And that ending. Wow so good! I look forward to reading more by this author that's for sure!

I don’t even know where to start with this hot mess. Almost nothing happened during this book in the present. It was a bunch of awful flashbacks, with conniving men and silly desperate women.

After reading two books by this author, im left scratching my head about the women her novels. They make the worst possible decisions at every turn.

I’m very disappointed about this book. Her work is highly rated and recommended but so far these first two novels of hers fall flat.
