Elegantly structured and written in a manner that doesn't overly call attention to itself. I didn't love every character, and had some grumbles about the quality of the inner life of his female characters and some dated jokes about wife killing, but this is a writer who knows his way around yarn spinning and thread tying, and I would definitely read more from him if the opportunity should arise.

???? This was actually good? I’m so surprised. Ignoring the light sexism and racism I really enjoyed this. Just small town drama. There’s quirky characters and it feels like nothing happens until the very end when things go awry. Like you don’t expect anything to happen but at the same time you feel like something will? If you’re looking for something flow paced, a little funny, and packed with a to of nostalgia this is really good.

CW: gun violence (not graphic)

A slow-burn small-town portrait with a great twist.
