The rating is more for the series than this installment, which had a rocky beginning but came together well for the ending. I do think Holden’s end deserved a little more … reflection, I guess, by his crewmates than it got. But it was otherwise the right ending for the series, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. Maybe more than any other sci fi I’ve read. And that’s saying something for a 9- — 9! — part series.

After reading all the novels, novellas, and short stories I was worried about how the series would end. So many long series stumble at the finish line.  This ending was perfect, a little sad, a little hopeful, and all wrapped up beautifully. I’m sad it is over, but damn, what a ride!

I've been letting it stew. I've been reading other reviews to see other's perspectives and so I think I've gotten my thoughts kind of nailed down.

FULL SERIES SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!

I personally thought it was a great, if safe ending. I loved the full-circle aspects of Miller's return, the fact that Holden becomes what Miller was in order to end the threat in a more final way. I LOVED the epilogue with the-thing-that-was-Amos hangin out on Earth a millennium later.

And so, sadly, the story comes to an end. It's been a wild ride and one I'll take up again from the beginning, now that I can take it all in one go. Old characters come back, everything ends neatly, and everything ends in the only way a James Holden ending can ever be. I really don't want to say any more than that. Fans of the books will read it anyway. And if you haven't read any of The Expanse now is the best time to start.

Wowowow what an ending! 2 months later and I'm so happy I spent the time on this series. I can't imagine what it must take to finish an epic this long and loved, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

And of course, Amos out lasted them all
