An amazing historical fiction, well written and enthralling.
It's the type of book you cannot put down and will keep you hooked till the last page.
I loved everything in this book and look forward to reading other books by this author.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to Hub City Press and Edelweiss for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book, all opinions are mine

Fun to listen to when sick. A poor young midwestern woman discovers an old book on her dad’s library and begins to experiment. Her dad decides to capitalize on her charm by teaching her tricks and they tour the US with her new found fame. Told from alternate perspectives of the girl and her dad. I found her story much more compelling then dad’s.

I feel like I just read the knock off version of something really good.

What I liked:
- The main character. She was extremely loyal to her family, but also battled with wanting to be her own person and live her life.
- The look at living double, being two sides of a coin. Nearly every main character has a variation on this.
- How manipulation within a family can be disguised.
- The writing was good.

Now what made this a two star read for me:
- The story felt meandering and unanchored. It didn’t seem to have anything beyond it’s premise, so the same scenes were recycled over and over again.
- It would have been better if more time was spent in the world of theatre and “con artistry.” The main character’s family instead felt like they were “above it all” making it so that we couldn’t truly explore this part of history.
- Most of the “twists” were predictable.
- The ending, or rather the nonexistent ending.
