There is very little that is original here, very much in the classic fantasy vein of D&D-in-book-form, complete with Evil Overlord who is Evil to be Evil....

And I liked it for that very reason, it was comforting fantasy brain candy.

I love the cover on this book, and this has been one of my better BookBub snags. It was an entertaining fantasy read, which I love, good characters, nice descriptions, and an interesting world that I can lose myself in. It hasn't been my best read this year, but I think I'm going to follow up on the series, which I rarely do.

Well, this was a rather entertaining book, all in all. It was fast moving and the plot kept me hooked from the start. I liked the characters, I especially liked the fact I didn't love them straight away but was very intrigued by them and wanted to follow their story. I did wish there was a bit more backstory to the book and a lot more world building, but still, this didn't deter from my enjoyment while reading it.

It was ok...
I didn't really connect to Eydis, I was always hoping she'd use more of her powers, and we don't get much background from her or much description to know her personality or why she acts the way she does. She comes out very bossy out of nowhere. And I don't get where she learned how to fight.
The others are ok. I did predict the thing about the fall at the end.
Not sure I want to read further.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mistress of Mask. I did not want to put it down but I was also torn between continuing and taking a break because I didn't want to finish. I just wanted it to be a 600 page novel. Luckily there is a book 2. Can't wait to read it as well.

Set against the rest of the books in my eternal fantasy bundle, this one is not bad. I'm not crazy about books that spend 95% of the time leading up to a second book though.
