RIP JakeBut seriously, this book really affected me while I was reading it. The mood was overwhelmingly bleak, claustrophobic, and anxiety-inducing. I was so impressed by the immersive power in this book! It’s a fast-paced read but you still get enough time with the characters that you’re crying by the end. Overall, this isn’t really one I can say I enjoyed, but it definitely did what the author set out for it to do. Such an impressive and emotional read!

That kid hid under the dashboard for days but pops up just in time to watch them having sex? Ugh. No thanks. With the way the dog was written I expected him to die. He was definitely more plot device than character. My problem lies with the way he died. After risking their lives to save him (just to let him suffer in a hot car while bleeding out), they just shrug and leave. Maybe he was eaten, maybe he bled out in the grass, who knows. Not the characters, because they just left without looking back.
Honestly, I’d be less annoyed with the author if they’d just shot the dog when he lost his leg.
