Deliciously murderous!
Absolutely loved this series debut by Olivia Matthews! From the characters to the recipes Against the Currant was a great new cozy mystery!
The story follows Lyndsay Murray, her family and their business (Spice Isle Bakery) as they try to clear their name and solve a murder (or two)! It’s full of twists, suspense, sleuthing and a possible romantic interest. I can’t wait to see what will happen in the next book in the Spice Isle Bakery Series! (Hard Dough Homicide coming May 2023)

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

The repetitiveness was annoying...I get it the pastries were good! This was just an okay book. I think it could have been shorter it felt dragged out a few times.

I always need a good reminder on why I love cozy mysteries and this was it! The balance of culture, food and mystery was perfection and great job to Olivia Matthews for capturing the Caribbean essence. Bonus points for having the currants roll recipe at the end! I wish there was more humor involved. Otherwise, great story! I'm excited to see where this series goes

There is nothing that I love more in a cozy then when there is food added. And Indian food?! Be still my heart! We need more diverse cozies in the genre and I’m so happy this one stepped up to the plate. I want all of the food in this book. And Grandma is literally my spirit animal. She was feisty and fun! I also loved the whole entire feel of Lindsey’s family and how much family meant in the book. I highly recommend this.

The book was incredibly repetitive and could've easily been a short story. I liked the inclusion of Caribbean culture, though it sometimes felt clunky in execution. I won't be picking up the next one as the first one felt like a slog many times, despite being short and easy to read.
