What did I just read?  Why did I even read it?

I don't know what I was expecting, but it definitely did not deliver.  Also, the twist was obvious from a mile away.

I think I was swayed by those that said they loved the couple.  I've read darker romances before and they've been meh to okay so I figured, maybe this is the one.  It was not the one.

I just didn't feel like this book lived up to all the hype that I had put on it. Obviously I knew going in that it was going to be about addiction and their fights with it but I guess I just had never really been in the mindset of an addict. I think this book really put into perspective for me how all-consuming addiction is no matter what your vice is. That being said though, it was kind of exhausting to read. I was angry at Lily for her being so upset with Lo about his addiction but not wanting to do anything about her own issues. I prefer a book to be filling and I love fluffy romance and this just wasn't that for me. I don't think the writing was bad and I do believe that it was a really great representation of how an addict thinks but it just wasn't for me.

Spoiler What can I even say? It’s currently 12:24 a.m. and I’m laying in bed crying my eyes out and I don’t have the second book to instantly jump into. I first was introduced to this book through the wonderful world of tiktok and booktubers especially LarryReads (Larissa) and I just knew i had to explore this series.

I love Lily and Loren so much. Their friendship from the start screamed soul mates to me, even when they were suppose to be pretending, it was all too real. I love the side characters just as much (maybe not Ryke, I’m still mad at him), they were all so dynamic and beautifully written. The protectiveness of Rose of Lily touch something in my heart that I just knew if she were to confide in Rose (like she did) she would be accepted and without judgment.

I really don’t know how to formulate any consistent thoughts and feelings besides that I NEED to see where the rest of this story goes! What happens to Lo and Lily? What about Connor and Rose? What about their relationship now that Rose has to take care of Lily? I even care about Ryke! How is he doing now that he has a brother in his life that he’s having to take care of in a rehab facility because of their shitty father? I need the answers to these.

I will say the reason I gave this story a 4 stars out of 5 (sadly couldn’t give it a 4.75 like i wanted) was in the middle with the whole Ryke situation it started to lose track for me and I felt there was a lull but it instantly picked up and I devoured the last 150 or so pages nonstop.

This book is hard to live, and frustrating. I believe that’s the point, the book makes us mirror Lily and Lo’s feelings. I have never read a book that made me dislike the main couple so much, I hope that’s leading up to the development over the next book - there must be a reason all of bookstagram tags them as ‘couple goal’.

3.75-4 stars
I flew through this book and loved every second of it. However, it’s definitely not for everyone. It’s not going to be the fluffy romance you want but definitely not the serious book with depth either. While it wasn’t necessarily the best writing and time was passing in the book with no major changes, the tension, love, personal problems, and the characters were worth it for me to rate it high and obsess over it constantly. When I wasn’t reading, I wanted to be. If  another book was written this way, I may have wanted more and rated lower; somehow this story left nothing to be desired and I loved it.
