My favorite Austen, this is neither the first nor the last time I have enjoyed the gentle embrace of Sense and Sensibility. The Dashwoods feel like family, and every time I read of their families small sorrows and joys, it feels like being home. Upon this reading, I’ve appreciated Elinor for her reliability and good sense, but instead of just blanketly looking up to her as a paragon of what-it-means-to-be-a-lady, I see more of her flaws. And Marianne wasn’t just a relatable shit show, she also has a lot of wisdom despite her naivety I didn’t really pick up the first time. S&S gets better with each reading.

“The more I know of the world, the more I am convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love. I require so much!”
