It's a collection of short stories, and not a complete novel. To me, these are rather like Christie's braindumps cobbled together. Very formulaic.
Also, seeing a racial slur 5 pages in did knock me over.

Graphic: Racial slurs and Xenophobia

At first I started noting down all the individual scores for each of the short stories, but I ended up giving eacht story a 3 star, except for the second and twelfth, which was a 3.5 stars.
Conclusion after reading so many little tales where with just a short story he seems to catch the killer/thief? Hercule Poirot truly is incredible.
I might have been a little bit grumpy when I wrote that down, but sometimes you have to admit that there's no logic for you to even follow to try to solve the case yourself...
Anyway, I don't think I would necessarily recommend people to read these short tales. There's not much time to form any kind of investment into the story before it is done and the case is solved, whether it makes sense or not.
Happy Reading, anyway.

Even when he is on a sickbed because of influenza, and Hastings is running the case, HP can solve the crime faster than anyone else can (by pulling things out of his a$$).I might have been a little bit grumpy when I wrote that down, but sometimes you have to admit that there's no logic for you to even follow to try to solve the case yourself...

I can see why several reviewers say that they prefer the Poirot novels to the short stories; when you read a few short stories in succession, the formulaic qualities really jump out. In particular, poor Captain Hastings doesn't seem capable of learning from experience. No matter how many stories he's in, he's just as likely each time to think that he's good at applying Poirot's methods, that Poirot underestimates him, and he can do some quick deducing while Poirot isn't there, so Poirot will be impressed later. Dude, has that ever worked before? Spoiler alert: not once. lol
Despite any flaws, I still found these stories to be basically potato chips, and could never stop after just one. I devoured the volume, and moved straight on to the next thing on my ereader, which is The Murder on the Links. (Do you think Captain Hastings will try to solve it on his own, and impress Poirot with his genius? If so, will he succeed this time? haha)

A straightforward and nearly forgettable collection of short Poirot stories. They are fun in they are consumable in a sitting. They can be a bit tiresome by the end as the pattern of Poirot's style is repeated quickly that was probably not intended in their original format (I assume they were serialized or occasional magazine stories).
Still fun AC though.
