The explanation as to why the story was the way it was didn't quiet make sense to me. But it was still enjoyable and different from the previous novels in the series. I didn't find Jefferson Winter so annoying as I have in the past.

Jefferson is a hunter of serial killers for hire, an ex-FBI profiler and the son of one of the worse serial killers in the country. He has an insight into the minds of killers and he has to use this to find a female killer who is playing games with him. It's not easy as she is highly intelligent and extremely dangerous.

A good read and an improvement over the past.

Prey is the third book in the Jefferson Winter series. It is best to probably have read these books in order to get the full enjoyment out of them as Jefferson has one interesting background!

I have to say that this book doesn’t half start off with a bang. I had to re read a part as I couldn’t quite take in what I was reading as I just wasn’t ready for something quite that shocking within the first few pages. The author by doing this though makes sure he has one hundred percent of his readers attention from this point on wards.

You can’t help but feel a bit sorry for Jefferson. He has a high profile due to his notorious father who was a serial killer. It’s something that he is always reminded off and can never quite put behind him. He then meets a woman who seems to have targeted him for who he is and boy does she want to try and mess with his head.

This is very much a story of a battle of the minds. Jefferson and the mysterious female go head to head in trying to out wit each other and boy was I glad that I was there for the ride. It makes for a gripping read to see who was going to win.

Prey is yet another fast paced read that will send your heart racing. An absolute page turner that will leave you wanting more.

The main reason I liked this book is that it didn't need to try too hard at anything to be good - it didn't overplay any CSI or serial killer cliches, it wasn't police procedural heavy, and it didn't fanny around on pointless fluff. I guess in short, that makes it readable. I had a quick scroll down the other reviews and wasn't surprised to see a lot of 3+ star ratings. The story is a mystery, and it is crime based - but it ties these themes effortlessly into an interesting plot so you don't feel like you're reading someones post-arrest report!

One of the most unusual things is that the criminal, who you could say is the main plot driver of the book - is not the lead character. The story is delivered from a 'detective' point of view, but without going too heavily into any side stories that that will often generate.

It moves quickly, it's easy to read. If you're a traditional crime/detective novel fan, you might find this lacking something. But if you are a general thriller fan or just want something a little different; I'd recommend it.
