Castile Lejeune tells Dave that the deeper meaning of Dave's words escape him. Some of the Robicheaux books are that way and this is one of them. Too many threads obliquely tied together. I still have no idea why Jimmie Dolan needed Dave to go see if the guitar was really Cudrup's. That started a thread of the plot, but was Jimmie hoping Dave would buy it or help her or investigate the crime?

One of the slower Burke novels. I never completely got into it and felt it dragged on far too long. Still it is a Burke novel which means it is better than most things out there.

Still madly, deeply wildly in love with Burke after all these years.

He's my favorite author. Read a Burke book and your in a dark theater by yourself surrounded and engulfed by his images. I've read them all but can only do so once every 3-4 months because in the end they are their message about the human condition is not hopeful.
