Not as good as Last Temptation of Christ but a great dive into the torturous life of the most loving of saints. You can feel the author wrestling with his own conception of his faith in the beautiful prose.

بیش‌تر به یک کتاب مقدس شباهت دارد. روایت نیست، حکایت است. آمیخته‌ای از واقعیت و تمثیل. شخصیت‌پردازی و داستان‌پردازی‌اش مثل هر کتاب مقدس دیگری(!) ضعیف است اما در عوض به هیچ وجه زمان‌مند نیست. آیات قرآن، غرر احادیث، رگه‌هایی از عاشورا و حتی احوالاتی را که درباره‌ی آیت الله قاضی و بهبهانی و مقدس اردبیلی و... روایت می‌شوند می‌توانید در این کتاب بیابید!!! درود خدا بر فرانسیس آسیزی و کازانتزاکیس.

Beautiful beautiful writing. Hard hard story and much focus on Francis suffering.

This is more Kazantzakis than St. Francis.

Francis is more a person struggling to transform his body into spirit than as a person responding in love to a loving God who transforms Francis.

It avoids a Manichean approach to Francis, including a section against the Cathars.

Read with care and a critical eye.
