I think you begin to like Fight Club a lot better when you realize it's a love story, amongst everything else. And what an amazing one it is.

I expected this to be a hard read but boy oh boy did I not expect just how hard of a read it was going to be. The first time I tried reading this I gave up three chapters in because the violent descriptions and the talk of how to make homemade explosives gave me that weird phantom pain in my knees. But this time I pushed forward and got through the whole book. I love the movie, it’s one of my favourite movies. But it was far more difficult to actually be in the narrator’s head the way you are in a book versus how it is watching it in a movie. 

Man some of this was really hard to swallow. I loved it though. It was so brutal but it felt incredibly authentic. My problem with a lot of books this brutal is inauthenticity. This was great.

This is a gritty, faced paced novel which makes a lot of commentary on the mundanities of life and how we find ourselves trapped and depressed. I love how depraved the main characters are. You can really see why it’s such a cult classic. Almost exactly the same as the movie except for the end, which I think the book does better!

Interesting to see the differences between the book and the movie. The lengths at which the narrator and Tyler go to destroy each other is greater here. I liked the movie more, but always love having another medium to engage with a story that puts my thoughts in a full nelson. Would not recommend listening to the audiobook while drifting in and out of sleep…your subconscious might take notes. (But seriously, the repetition makes it difficult to track where you fell asleep.)
