3.5 stars. I liked this a lot, I love when authors aren't afraid of truly awful characters. Made me very glad I am medicated, clinical depression runs rampant here. Definitely identifiable as a first novel though, I think Butler's next book will be better and tighter.

I love an unhinged, depressed woman in fiction. And this fit the definition… and just that. No real plot, no real character growth one way or the other. Typically they grow more unhinged, but the two main characters stayed basically the same with bad things happening here and there and then it ends unsatisfying and abruptly. I listened to this on 3x speed on audio, and it’s pretty short already, but I feel like I wasted my time.
