Another absolute heartbreaker!!! I did feel the pacing was a bit off, but it was still a strong story and solid ending for an absolutely brutal series.

WICKEDLY unsatisfying ending to a series that otherwise fascinated me. How did you manage to wait until the very end to fall flat on your face and perish in the mud

It’s been a long time since a piece of media has made me this emotional. Reading the ending of this book was so gut wrenching and devastating it made me sob. Don’t pick up this series unless you enjoy torturing yourself lmfao. But in all seriousness, it was SO worth it. R.F. Kuang had such a talent for creating characters that I can’t help but fall in love with and burn with anger for. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t hate Runin. She’s an antihero, but her rage and conviction are so justifiable I can’t say for certain I wouldn’t have acted in the same accord. Most would want to say they could never succumb to such violence,  so it takes real talent to almost make the genocide Runin enacted seem fair. I adored this series even though I could hardly stand the way it made me feel at points. I look forward to reading more books from this author. Kudos!

I suffered my way through The Dragon Republic, but I can’t suffer through this. It’s so long and without the presence of Nezha (my favorite character) what’s even the point?

It doesn’t help that the first quarter of The Burning God is terribly repetitive. Rin and her ragtag army will go to an occupied town or village full of Mughanese soldiers. Rin swears at some people and then waffles for a bit over the humanity of her enemy before deciding that the Mughanese do indeed deserve to be roasted into crispy bits, civilian casualties be damned. Then some character tells Rin that actually civilians shouldn’t be roasted into crispy bits, to which Rin says “damn, ur so right” and decides she does care about human life for a few pages.

Rinse and repeat.

Of course sometimes Rin gets a lucky break because sometimes the civilians in question decide “hey actually we do want to immolate ourselves for the cause!” and they just…walk into the fire. Moral quandary solved, I guess. That was easy.

What the actual fuck was this? Kuang. What did you do????

I didn't expect the ending. I'm so upset. I'm so mad. I get it, I truly do.
like she had to die there was no other way for Nikan to survive because of her fuck sakes

Fuck. Fuckily fuck. Kitay. Venka. Nezha. Rin.

I am not going to even bother with a proper review.
