Maybe the woman gets her freedom but she pays the steepest of prices, and this is still a happier ending than the ones where the women remain stuck, even in the 21st century. So heavy. Very important.

romanzo chiaramente autobiografico che si annuncia racconto di una vita e dell'anelito alla libertà.
sicuramente porta i segni del femminismo di prima ondata, ancora legato a una mentalità classista e vagamente antimeridionalista, ma per l'epoca è incredibilmente forte, quasi veggente.
più che per la questione sociale, colpisce il racconto di una donna individuale prigioniera delle leggi del tempo che la tenevano legata al suo abuser e della sua E insopprimibile volontà di indipendenza che la spingono a una scelta sofferta.
