The Coming Storm is a quick read, and fun. As a self-appointed Captain Jack Sparrow expert and enthusiast, I'm rather picky about folks getting him right. Rob Kidd does an admirable job here, capturing Captain Jack's voice and mannerisms so well that I actually pictured a 21 Jump Street-era Johnny Depp acting them out. The book is very clearly part of a series, and while it could stand alone, there's no reason you'd want it to. It has its own arc and ties in with a larger storyline as well. The book "sets up" familiar characters from the movies, including both Tia Dalma and Davy Jones. Jack's desire early on seems to be to rid the world of pirates, or so he tells his crew, and I'm interested to see if the other books explain his apparent distaste for his future profession.

I highly recommend this book (along with the rest of its series) for younger readers. Not only is it short and to the point, but it also features the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow! I went to Disney World where they had a set of the first couple of books in the series for sale. I immediately bought it since I'm both a sucker for the film franchise and origin stories. I was not disappointed in the slightest. I'm not sure how older readers will feel about it, but its definitely a good pick for Elementary and Middle School readers!

Loved reading this with my little one! Very fun and humorous read. Love the little here and there homages to the movies.

I was a little skeptical starting this because it is a children's book. I was afraid that because I am an adult I wouldn't really be able to get into it. That was not the case at all. This is a fast paced book and I read it in one sitting. I am a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and love that now I get to learn about Jack Sparrow from his teenage years.
