This book came onto my radar after I saw the miniseries on Netflix. The show is a very good adaptation of the book it adapts about 90% of the story. I really liked this mainly because I was really enthralled by show. This book is a slow read at first but I feel the second half flew by and was very good. There were moments where the author jumps from one event to the next and it did feel jarring in some cases but it didn't distract from the overall story. Others have compared this book to Pillars of the Earth, since I haven't read that I don't know other than both books are about a church being built. This story is about a family's fall and rise over the course of the 14th century in Barcelona. It is about revenge, coming of age, love, death and what it means to be free. Overall if you want to know about some of the history of Barcelona and specifically the Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar pick up this book or watch the miniseries.

Could have been a stellar book but the constant rape and sexual assaults was unnecessary
