A nonfiction book detailing the Charles Manson family, the murders committed in his name, and the trials afterward. It was informative and held a lot of respect for the victims, but you could tell it was written by a lawyer.

Everything was written as if it was quoting solely crime reports. When we got to the court room, the author and his experience definitely brought the experience to life and added tension within the story. It just made the book even more lop-sided and overly long.

I recommend it if you are curious about the murders. They are horrifying enough without any added drama. I just felt the book read a bit too long for the writing that was in it.

The book is a top seller for a reason. I recommend it for someone wanting to understand the Manson murders. It gives a lot of details, including the motive, that many people may not have fully seen explained but which are fleshed out in this book

I usually find True Crime books, movies, and television shows to be a bit on the repetative side, but i found this bone very enjoyable.  The fact that the Manson Murders are legend in the world of criminal history is a bonus, but the real sell for this one is the fact that the man who wrote it was the actual prosecutor of the case.  I've read other books written by him and found them just as enjoyable.  I recommend it any fan of true crime, and anyone looking to learn virtually everything there is to know about the Manson Murders.
On the negative side, there is the length.  I listened to this in audiobook form and it runs a little more than 26 hours.  It's by no means backbreaking, especially if you're interested in the subject, but still on the long side.  Of course there is the brutal nature of the subject matter to take into acount.  There was nothing glamorous about these murders, as anyone reading this book will learn.  Then again, if you're contemplating reading this book, you are probably ready for the real-world violence in brings with it.
All in all it was interesting to learn what i did about Charles MAnson and his "family" from a source that knows more about them than anyone.  If you find the author entertaining i would also suggest looking into his book about the JFK Assassination (unless you want to stick to the belief that the whole thing was a shady government plot, or whatever).
