A re-read! Don't have the series myself anymore, so I was happy when Kodansha had the free volume 1 thingie and I could grab this one! It was a fun re-read, love meeting Yoh again and see all he can do, love his drive and how chill he is at the same time. I love how dedicated he is to being a shaman and how he goes far to help everyone, ghosts and humans. The ghosts are fab! Manta though, I suddenly remembered why I didn't read a lot of the series or stopped watching the anime. Gosh, he is so annoying. Ren is the same, but he got a nice butt-kicking from Yoh. Heehee.
Oh, and this one reminds me of the time I cosplayed (not too good, though people said otherwise) as Anna! That was so fun! I miss those times~

Did not like the art style and wasn't gripped straight away, I think I would prefer to watch the anime. It was a borrowed book too so didn't feel bad about putting it down.

Yoh Asakura isn’t afraid of ghosts. No, in fact, he calls them his friends!

See, Yoh is a shaman — meaning he can speak to ghosts and ghosts can possess his body if he allows it. By channeling ghosts, Yoh can assume their abilities and talents. For example, when channeling the ghost of famed samurai Amidamaru, Yoh is able to wield a sword with remarkable strength and skill.

Ultimately, Yoh hopes to become the fabled shaman king — the most powerful shaman alive. But, is he up to the task?

This is a super fun and spooky story! I’m definitely looking forward to reading more~

I have a really good feeling about this manga! The concept is pretty unique, art/drawing is great. And oooh! Really interesting characters, too!
Also, I think I've watched a few episodes (or maybe just the commercials) of the anime on Cartoon Network back then.
