Such a cute, fun read! I loved Sasha and definitely related to her drive for studying

Could’ve been better. Sasha got on my nerves a little bit.

cute ya romance book, very quick to read writing style and I did rlly like the themes of reconnecting, learning to apologize and overcoming this overachiever mindset and not seeing anything but your achievements. The guilt Sasha felt towards her mom was also so relatable. I'd rate this higher if the romance was a little bit more developed, especially their past as best friends bc I am still unsure why they evwr drifted apart this much.

I was struggling trying to decide between this read and a thriller. I’m glad I chose this one! It was soooo cute! I admired Sasha’s drive to be the best and win, but I love that Ezra came in and made her realize what she was missing out of life. The character development was definitely there for Sasha. I totally got her personality, what motivated her, who she loved, and her quirks lol. She’s a Virgo and her favorite color is Lilac?! I was like oh we’re besties 😂 I do rate this 4.75 ⭐️ just because some of the things Ezra said throughout the story gave adult NOT teen, especially not a teen boy. I also agree with other reviews stating that they wish there was more development of Sasha and Ezra’s history as we were only given snippets. I do think that would have been good, but would have made the story too long and the snippets we did get painted a nice picture for me.

You Bet Your Heart is a young adult novel with black lead characters Ezra and Sasha. The story revolves around the competition for valedictorian, while the romance between the two blossoms.

Sasha was a fun MC for most of the story, ready to go to any extent to win the title she believes she deserves and the attached scholarship. Her extreme desire to pay a 'tribute' to all those who sacrificed for her was what distanced me from her. Ezra didn't have a POV in the story (I would have liked that) so I don't feel as strongly about him. I never understood his motives for winning the position and his initial meddling personality.

The third act and ending were extremely rushed. To put it simply, the romantic feelings literally pop out of nowhere and then it becomes super serious, and we have no clue what's going on. The last few chapters made no sense and although there is a character arc, it is so abrupt that the MCs feel like different people by the last page.

I had some expectations from this book but it didn't live up to the blurb. I'm not impressed by it, so I don't recommend it, but I wouldn't discourage you either. So if you want to pick it up, go ahead my all means.

These two were gunning for the valedictorian spots, and yet they are sabotaging each other's academic future, skipping classes...it all was very immature and childish (and yes, I know they're still children, but like c'mon, they are almost 18 years old, do better than that).
